About ten officers of the Interior Ministry have been implicated in corruption since the beginning
of 2008, Nikolai Spassov, Director of the Interior Ministry's Inspectorate, said on Sunday.

An Interior Ministry employee would take a bribe of 10 to 50 leva. The officers of the Traffic Police and Border Police were at the same level in terms of number of corrupted and bribe size, BTA reports.

Prosecutor Kroum Manov of the Military Prosecution Office said that the Chief of the Face and Jaw Surgery Sector of the Academy of Military Medicine was intercepted with a bribe of 50 leva after performing an operation about a week ago. A few days ago border policeman Dimiter Dimitrov was caught while taking a bribe of about 10 euro from a non-EU national, who would often pass through the Kardam border crossing.

In another development Interior Ministry employee Alexander Rangelov was arrested for demanding 2,000 leva from a woman from Sofia and her son for covering up a case file against them.

Manov commented that a contemplated amendment to the Code of Criminal Procedure under which the Interior Ministry employees would not be prosecuted by military courts is inappropriate.
