The Nuclear Regulatory Agency (NRA) President issued new licences for the operation of Units 5 and 6 of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, NRA said on Monday.

The terms of validity of the licences, which were issued on October 2, are eight years for Unit 5 and ten years for Unit 6.

The documents were issued in accordance with a provision in the Ordinance on the Issuing of Licences and Permits for Safe Use of Nuclear Energy, which envisages renewal of the old licence upon expiry of its term of validity.

The renewal was done on the basis of a periodical safety assessment and all necessary operational and organizational documents.

The licences allow the Kozloduy N-Plant to carry out the activities of operating the units according to the conditions of the licences and the provisions of the Safe Use of Nuclear Energy Act, the regulatory instruments for its application and all other applicable regulatory instruments, ensuring the necessary priority of nuclear safety and radiation protection over the other aspects of operation.
