Bulgaria ranked 64th in terms of corruption rate in a research carried out by Transparency International. Our country shares the position with Croatia and Turkey.

By comparison, Romania is 69th together with Ghana and Colombia. Serbia ranks 79th.

The countries with the lowest corruption rates according to the research are New Zealand, Finland and Denmark, as well as Singapore and Sweden.

The relatively poor Uzbekistan, Tonga, Somalia and some other African countries top the chart.

Corruption declines in Costa Rica, Croatia, The Czech Republic, Italy, Macedonia and others, while in Austria, Bahrain, Bhutan, Malta, Oman, and Mauritius Island, the situation is worsening.

Some of the measures recommended in the fight against corruption are introduction of structural reforms, independence and reforms in the judicial system, measures against “money laundering”, stricter control over financial markets by richer countries etc.
