Bulgaria is expected to achieve still greater development of the nuclear energy and of the renewable energy sources, Dimcho Kunev, Chief Expert of the Bulgarian National Electricity Company, told reporters here on Thursday. He was among the speakers at the 20th World Energy Congress hosted by Rome in November 11 to 15, BTA reports.

Technological refurbishment planned until 2025 will reduce the energy consumption measured as percentage of the Gross Domestic Product by an annual rate of 3.5 per cent maximum and 2.4 per cent minimum.

End consumption of energy is expected to increase annually by 1 per cent minimum and 2 per cent maximum, largely attributed to greater consumption by transport and the population.

By 2025 electricity is expected to account of as much as 30 per cent of the total energy used in Bulgaria.

Use of solid and liquid fuels is expected to decrease, while that of natural gas, to grow.

The trends underpinning Bulgaria's energy priorities until 2025 are maximum use of local energy sources and reducing the country's dependence on imported sources; improving the security of electricity supply; invigoration of the market of renewable energy sources; reintegration of nuclear energy; more effective research for better technologies for utilization of energy sources which need to be with greater efficiency and more environmentally-friendly.
