Bulgaria will renew exports of electricity as of March 1, the Economy and Energy Ministry said
on Tuesday, BTA reports.

The Electricity System Operator sent a letter to Economy and Energy Minister Peter Dimitrov saying that the electricity transactions can be renewed. This conclusion has been drawn based on an analysis of the country's energy balance, the available energy resources, the meteorological forecasts, the predictions regarding the capacity and the coordinated energy facilities repair program.

The exported amounts are expected to equal 300-400 megawatts.

Electricity exports were restricted temporarily by a ministerial order of January 14, as a precaution to ensure undisturbed domestic supply. Announcing his decision, Economy and Energy Minister Dimitrov said that while the stability of the energy system in Bulgaria was not jeopardized, a week of subzero temperatures had caused residential consumption of electricity to increase 20 per cent from the like period of last year, thus causing an extreme situation.
