The future technological development sets requirements for an increase in the volume and the quality of the scientific research, as well as for the intensifying of the partnership and the technological transfer between the research organizations and the industry, Plamen Vachkov, chairman of the State Agency for Information Technologies, said within the framework of the Bulgarian day at the CEBiT exhibition in Germany.

The establishment of a National Center for Innovations is a continuation of this policy. The center will provide innovative environment working environment and will encourage the companies to take part in programs related to information technologies, Vachkov said. There are more than 5000 companies operating successfully in the sector in Bulgaria.

The Bulgarian market for information and communication technologies (ICT) grew by 23.4 % in 2007, preliminary data show. The exports of ICT products rose considerably by 57.7% and 63.6% in 2005 and 2006, respectively.

More than 90 000 are employed in Bulgaria's IT sector, while the country accounts for 12% of the IT personnel in Europe. Bulgaria was one the ten most preferred centers for outsourcing in 2007.
