Total cement production in Cyprus rose by 4.8% in 2007 to 1,872,531 (1.87 mln) tonnes, according to the latest data from the Statistical Service, compared with 1,786,488 (1.79 mln) tonnes in 2006, financialmirror reported.

The biggest increase was recorded in local sales of “super white”, which rose by 10% to 10,614 tonnes.

Local sales of cement, helped by a buoyant construction sector, rose by 10% to 1,790,456 tonnes, while exports fell by 63.6% to 62,969.

Production of clinker fell by 1.6% to 1,515,597 tonnes, and there were no exports of clinker in 2007, compared with exports of 97,846 tonnes in 2006.
