The European Commission approved on Thursday a natural disaster compensation scheme for
Bulgarian farmers, the Agriculture and Food Supply Ministry said.

The country requested 100 million euro annually for a term of three years as the funds will initially be extended under the national budget to compensate producers for ruined harvest due to natural disasters and unfavorable climatic conditions.

As a result of this decision Bulgaria withdraws the item, State aid in Bulgaria due to the drought, from the agenda of the next meeting of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council due in Luxembourg on October 22 and 23.

Agriculture Minister Nihat Kabil thanked for the prompt reaction of EU Commissioner for Agriculture Mariann Fischer Boel and DG Agriculture and Rural Development.
