26% of Sofia citizens surveyed by Eurostat said they think it is possible to find a good home at reasonable price in the capital city. By comparison, just 7% of citizens in Romanian capital Bucharest think this is possible in their city.

The reason for the pessimism of Romanians is the rising prices of real estate prices in Bucharest over the past years, as well as the lack of quality projects.

A square meter of residential property in Bucharest costs more than 1,500 euros, which is more than what the average Romanian can afford.

Citizens of Hungarian capital Budapest are more optimistic – 26% of respondents answered positively.

The percentage is higher in Leipzig where 78% of respondents said buying a quality home at a reasonable price was possible.

According to experts, the optimism of Sofia citizens may decline if real estate prices in the country continue to increase.

It is expected that after the 50% hike in home prices last year, the increase will slow down to between 15-20% in 2007.
