The place I am going to tell you about today reminds me of the Renaissance, of Shakespeare and of ladies dressed in magnificent ballroom gowns, and dancing to the music of Strauss, Beethoven, or Vivaldi.

The atmosphere of the place is so elegant and delicate, one wonders if it is real or just a dream.
I am talking about the Druster Hotel in Silistra. Druster is the ancient name of the city. As all hotels in the Authentic Bulgaria selection, it preserves the atmosphere of the the old days, only that this one adds something a little bit more special to it. It is one of those places, that once you get there, you cannot forget it, just as there are people that once you meet, you are sure you will always remember.

The hotel itself resembles an impressive fortress. When one passes the threshold, one feels like putting on their most elegant dress and dancing a waltz in the hall.

The rooms on each floor are furnished in a different style. They all have balconies, overlooking the beautiful River Danube.

The restaurant offers fine dining in a unique atmosphere. There are all sorts of dishes from the European, as well as the traditional Bulgarian cuisine. The restaurant has a VIP hall with an enchanting view if the river. Don't forget to try the delicious apricot brandy called “rakiya” - the region is famous with it.

There is plenty to see outside the hotel as well. It is situated in a region, famous with historical monuments. You can also try the boat trips on the river Danube, tour guides are available.

Visit the Srebarna natural reserve park, or travel to the monasteries around Durostorum-Drastar-Silistra. The Thracian shrines built in the period between 6th century BC and 3rd century AC are a must-see for those who love history and culture.

I myself strongly recommend the boat trip on the Danube. You may have seen the river on post cards, but I assure you, being there and seeing it with one's own eyes is something completely different. Mentioning postcards, I will appreciate if you sent me one, will you?

Rates start from 60 euros per person, depending on the type of room you choose.

Well, we only have one week before the holidays, so you'd better make a reservation.

If you haven't chosen a place to spend the days off work, I will be here next weekend again with more tempting suggestions. Until then, enjoy the last business week of the year!
