The gross premium income on the market of general insurance in Bulgaria stood at 779.351 mln leva (398.47 mln euros) at the end of August. Insurers have paid a total of 295.954 mln leva (151.31 mln euros) in claims on general insurance policies.

The most common type of insurance on the market is Motor Casco and MTPL – 65.71% of all policies. The relative share of claims paid on these two polices accounts for 87.27% of all.

Gross premium income of life insurers came to 138.174 mln leva (70.674 mln euros) at the end of August 2007. The amount of claims paid stood at 34.883 mln leva for the period.

The largest relative share in both premium income and claims paid comes from Life Insurance – 73.91%.

Premium income on the market of voluntary insurance stands at 19.273 mln leva (9.854 mln euros). Insurers on this segment have paid 10.119 mln leva (5.173 mln euros) in claims.

The Additional Medical Expenses package accounts for 22.38% of revenues and 25.55% of claims paid.
