Mobile phone operator Mobiltel is acquiring high-speed fixed network operators Megalan and Spectrum Net, Mobiltel Chief Executive Officer Andreas Maierhofer said before journalists Wednesday. The deal is worth a total of 72 million euro. Maierhofer signed the preliminary agreement together with Spectrum Executive Director Teodor Zahov and Megalan Director Ivan Yordanov.

"Megalan" and "Spectrum Net" will keep their management and personnel.

Now the approval of the deal by the Commission on protection of competition is to be obtained and after that the deal will be closed.

Mobiltel confirmed that they will keep and further develop the proactive approach the two companies have towards their customers. The deal will lead to a series of additional benefits for the customers, a widened portfolio, many and different packets of services, including sets of three and four services in one. The packet services will help reducing the bills for the subscribers of combined solutions, as they will be able to benefit from many discounts.

The newly acquired Internet service providers complement each other in terms of offers for their customers and this will provide Mobiltel with the possibility to attract and serve corporate clients and households.

Spectrum Net is the biggest alternative operator, a leader on the market of business clients, present in 13 Bulgarian cities and with a focus on broadband internet and voice services for corporate clients and households. Megalan is a leading provider of home broadband Internet for Sofia. The portfolio of the company includes IPTV services as well.

Today M-Tel marked the 15th anniversary from the launch of its network, the first GSM network in Bulgaria. While in 1999 it had 100,000 clients, in 2007 they were already 5 million and now number 5.2 million. The company has invested over 2,500 million leva in these 15 years and is the only one that has more than 2,000 km of optical network in the country, as well as having the largest number of own base stations, Maierhofer said.
