People in Bulgaria have no idea what an investment fund is, shows a survey conducted by Profit.bg. In downtown Sofia today we asked passers-by “What do you think an investment fund is?” People's answers were either “ I have no idea” or “I don't know”.

Some were confused with the Eurofunds and some thought these were pension funds.

In fact an investment fund is a collective scheme for asset management. These funds are extremely popular in the developed countries.

The schemes can be balanced, low-risk or high-risk.

Of course, this survey can not be indicative for Bulgaria as a whole, but it shows to a certain extent people' knowledge of finance.

Currently the Bulgarian Association of Asset Management companies has 24 members, which control 60 funds. The total amount of their assets stood at 760 mln leva (388.58 mln euros) at the end of February.
