The revenue from overnights in Bulgaria stood at 88.663 mln leva (45.33 mln euros) in the first quarter of 2008, data of the National Statistical Institute said. Foreigners accounted for 49.7 mln leva (25.41 mln euros) of the figure.

A total of 798,000 people stayed overnight in Bulgaria in the first three months of 2008. Foreigners made for 31.49% of the figure. The number of overnights registered in the period totaled 1.838 mln with foreigners accounting for 803,000 of them.

Sofia city raked in slightly over 29 mln leva (14.82 mln euros) revenue from overnights in the period. The figure stood at 14 mln leva (7.15 mln euros) in Blagoevgrad. Smolyan ranked third with 8.3 mln leva (4.24 mln euros) revenue from overnights overtaking Varna with 6 mln leva (3.06 mln euros) and Plovdiv with 5.66 mln leva (2.89 mln euros).

A total of 12 Bulgarian cities generated over 1 mln revenue from overnights each in the first three months of the year.

A total of 4.813 million tourists stayed overnight in Bulgaria in 2007, while the revenue amounted to 683.8 mln leva (349.6 mln euros).
