The number of shopping centers in Romania has now exceeded 30, with an overall lettable surface area of 1 million square meters, after nine new projects were launched this year, reveals a Ziarul Financiar analysis, based on market data.

The ten biggest shopping centers alone, which include retail parks and malls, have a cumulated lettable space of almost 500,000 square meters.

The biggest mall is Polus Center in Cluj, with almost 60,000 square meters, while the Baneasa project incorporates the biggest retail park, which, in turn, includes a shopping center with 55,000 square meters of lettable space.

Recent openings have contributed significantly to the increase in the number of large shopping centers, after seven out of the ten shopping centers with an area of at least 40,000 square meters opened in the last 12 months
