Sofiyska Voda invested 8.8 mln leva (4.49 mln euros) during the first half of 2008, the company's general secretary Ivan Ivanov told the engineering infrastructure commission with the municipality.

The money was invested in projects related to the water and sewerage system improvements, waste water treatment, installation of water-flow meters, improving customer service etc.

The company's 2008-2009 business plan envisages investing 40 mln leva (20.45 mln euros), at the current water prices of 1.02 leva/m3. The delay in the adoption of the new prices of water (in June) was the reason for a delay in the company's work.

The slow absorption of the funds from the EBRD loan reduced the company's resources for investments from 36 mln to 25 mln leva.

In H1 this year the company has completed eight projects within its program for reconstruction and modernization of its water supply network. A new three kilometer water-main has been built in Zaharna Fabrika neighborhood. A five-kilometer one is almost ready in the area of Malinova Dolina – Bunkera. The company is also working on the reconstruction of the sewerage system on Nishava Str.

Other projects in final stages of development are: the water-main between Tzar Boris Blvd and Raiska Gradina Str in the area of Gardova Glava, as well as water-main reconstructions on six streets in Sofia.

This month the company starts the reconstructions of the water-mains in the neighborhoods of Vladata, Balsha, Bankya, Kokalyane, Orlandovci and Lozenetz.

Work on 15 other projects will start by the end of the year. Those involve the construction of 24,631 km of water-mains and of 4,837 km of sewerage. The company will need 11.8 mln leva (6.03 mln euros) to complete those projects, 6 mln leva will be invested this year.
