Consumer prices in Bulgaria went up by 1.5%, in July, data of the National Statistical Institute (NSI) show.

Consumer Price Index (CPI) stood at 101.5% in July against June. The year-to-date inflation stood at 6.1%, while consumer prices rose by 14.5% in July 2008, compared to July 2007.

The consumer prices in the period January to July 2008 rose by 14.2%, compared to the corresponding period of 2007.

The prices of food products and soft drinks went up by 0.2% in July against June; the prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products rose by 1.5%, while the the prices of clothing and shoes declined by 0.1%.

The prices of the following foods appreciated in July: rice (+11.0%), bread and paste products (+0.5%), pastry products (1.0%), pork (2.4%), beef (1.2%), fish and fish products (+1.2%), milk (+0.4%),eggs (+1.5%), cheese (+1.4%), yellow cheese (+0.3%), apples (+5.2%), beans (+1.6%), sugar (+0.2%), leaf vegetables and radishes (+7.4%), mushrooms (+2.7%), olives (+0.5%), carbonated soft drinks (+0.6%), tobacco products (+1.3%), coffee, tea, cocoa (+1.0%).

The prices of the following foods went down: white bread (-0.1%), poultry (-0.4%), other types of meat (-1.3%), onions (-2.6%), tomatoes (-10.7%), cabbage (-29.8%), potatoes and potato products (-15.0%), peaches and apricots (-31.6%), garlic (-6.1%), carrots (-11.1%), mineral waters (-0.5%).

Non-food products and services that registered price increases in May included: men's suits (+0.5%), baby underwear and socks (+0.7%), men's shirts (+1.2%), housing rents (+1.0%), residential property repair and maintenance services (+2.0%), electricity (+14.3%), А95 gasoline (+0.3%), А98 gasoline (+0.9%), LPG (+9.3%), diesel fuel (+0.4%), railroad transport (+9.4%), restaurant and cafe services (+2.1%), personal care products (+0.5%), social services (+1.2%), vacationing and tourism services (+21.9%).

The prices of the following products and services declined: men's jackets (-1.3%), men's leather clothing (-1.4%), women's suits (-0.6%), shoes (-0.8%), photographic equipment (-0.4%), gardening and floriculture (-3.8%).

The prices of drugs and other pharmaceutical products went down by 0.2% in July, while the prices of hospital services remained unchanged from June.
