It is clear the problem of corruption and organized crime continues to be a serious social one. That is why the government’s efforts are directed towards the fight against corruption and organized crime not only by legislative initiatives and actions of the executive power but also by other concrete means, said Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev responding to a question of a Member of Bulgarian Parliament Atanas Atanasov.

Statistics shows that the preventive actions on the part of the Interior Ministry give evident results but this does not mean the problem doesn't exist, said the Prime Minister and added that more efforts and effectiveness, especially regarding murders, are necessary.

He defined the shooting against Manol Velev as a flagrant provocation to the state and said that such crimes have significance even for ordinary people since they create a feeling of insecurity.

The Prime Minister emphasized that he cannot accept the suggestion that organized crime aims at destabilization and thet there were such scenarios in the last few years.
