January and February 2008 inflation came to 2.5%. Year-on-year inflation stood at 13.2%, the National Statistics Institute said today.

The prices of the following groups changed during the period: foods and beverages (+17%), alcohol and tobacco (+0.3%), clothing and shoes (-0.5%), accommodation (rent and repairs), utilities (+0.5%).

The prices of furniture and home appliances rose 0.5%, of health care by 2.7%, and of transport by 0.9%, while those in the sector of telecommunications fell 0.2%.

The following foods appreciated: rice (+1.5%), flour (+0.3%), chicken meat (+1.1%), sausages (0.2 – 0.4%). The biggest hikes in this sector were in the prices of vegetable oils (+5.8%) and fruit (+3.7%).

The foods which became less expensive are – pork (-1%), eggs (-0.3%), mushrooms (-2.5%), potatoes (-1.9%), sugar (-0.1%).
