At the end of July the gross premium income of general insurance companies in Bulgaria stood at 665.4 mln leva (340.213 mln euros), the Financial Supervision Commission reports. Insurers paid claims in the amount of 245.36 mln leva (125.45 mln euros) within the period.

Motor Casco and MTPL insurance policies account for 64.36% of all general insurance policies, and claims paid on them amount to 86.85%.

The gross premium income on life insurance policies amounts to 121.79 mln leva (62.27 mln euros). Claims worth a total of 30.68 mln leva (15.686 mln euros) have been paid on this segment within the period concerned.

Life insurance has the biggest share in total general insurance earnings, as well as in total claims paid – 73.13% and 67.47%, respectively.

Income from volunteer health insurance amounts to 16.986 mln leva (8.684 mln euros), and a total of 9.025 mln leva (4.614 mln euros) has been paid on claims on this segment.

The Financial Supervision Commission will be releasing data on the insurance and health insurance market each month (as opposed to each quarter). The data in this article is from the July reports presented by companies and covers the period January 1 – July 31, 2007.
