The number of insured Bulgarians in the universal, professional and voluntary funds in the country towards March 31, 2007 is 3 252 919 people which is 8.1 more year-on-year, the Financial Supervision Commission announced.

50.35 per cent of insured persons in retirement insurance funds are men, in the professional funds men account for 84.61 per cent and in voluntary funds – 58.21 per cent. The average age of insured people in universal funds is 33 years, in professional funds – 41.5 years and in voluntary funds – 46 years.

Net assets of all three types of funds have risen 40.89 per cent since March 31, 2006 and towards the end of first quarter they reached 1.664 bln. leva.

Significant changes have occurred within the portfolios of retirement insurance funds since March 31, 2006. The share of government equities in compulsory funds has decreased by 20 per cent points and in voluntary funds it is more than 25 percent points down.

The number of shares in the portfolios of retirement insurance funds has increased three times. Shares are also the most preferred investment instrument by voluntary funds. Investment in corporate bonds and foreign equities is becoming more common.
