The base interest rate (simple per annum interest) in Bulgaria has been lifted to 4.10%, the Bulgarian National Bank announced.

This is the fifth consecutive increase of the BIR, which has added 0.58% since March 2007.

By comparison, base interest rate in May stood at 4.01%, and at 3.43% at the beginning of the year.

The current level is the highest since 6 March 2002, when BIR stood at 4.43%.
