Deputy Finance Minister Dimitar Ivanovsky and representatives of his Ministry took part in the annual meeting between the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Washington, USA.

Deputy Minister Ivanovsky met with top representatives of the IMF and WB, among which IMF's first deputy managing director John Lipisky and WO vice-president for Europe and Central Asia Shigeo Katzu.

The Bulgarian delegation briefed the institutions' representatives on the economic situation in our country and the fiscal policy observed by the Government.

IMF representatives said the fund finds Bulgarian fiscal policy prudent and supports the opinion that Bulgaria has to keep the currency board until it joins the Eurozone.

As we already informed Bulgarian Finance Minister Plamen Oresharski was elected Finance Minister of the Year in Eastern Europe exactly because of his firm fiscal policy.

The WB representatives said that even after the country joins the Eurozone the institution will continue to provide their support in reforming the sectors of health care, education and social policy.

Deputy Minister Ivanov also met with the Finance ministers of Iraq and Afghanistan and discussed possibilities for debt settlement.
