Base Interest Rate in Bulgaria At 6-Year High

As of January 1, the base interest rate (BIR) in Bulgaria is 4.68, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) announced.
This is the highest since February 2002, when BNB had raised BIR to 4.54%.
The hike is in the amount of 0.10 percentage points versus December 2007. In November BIR was at 4.26%.
We remind that at the beginning of 2007 the base interest rate stood at 3.43%, in January 2006 it was at 2.21%.
