SOFIX, BG40 and BGTR30 End The Last January Session Up

January was a nerve-wracking month for investors on BSE. During the past 31 days we saw the correction get more serious and indexes fluctuating in both directions. SOFIX, BG40 and BGTR30 ended the final day of January with advances.
Since the beginning of January indexes broke several key levels. SOFIX started the year at 1737.42 points and on 31 January closed at 1403.3. the index climbed 2.88% today, but lost 19% on a monthly basis.
BG40 started 2008 at 516.47. The broad indicator added 1.45% to 410.64, today, but still loses 20% on a monthly basis.
This month BGTR30 and BGREIT fell 17% and 5% respectively. At the beginning of the year BGTR30 stood at 1085.81, while on 31 January it closes at 901.45 (+1.18% today).
BGREIT fell from 104.73 to 99.59 points this month. The indicator shed 0.42% today.
Today was the final date for submission of Q4 reports of companies, according to Bulgarian legislation.
BSE's turnover stood at 17.716 mln leva (9.058 mln euros). Te value of block and other agreed transactions stood at 13.563 mln leva (6.934 mln euros). 66 out of 149 active issues ended on positive territory.
By midday trade was quite sluggish. The most active positions today were Synergon Holding, Monbat, Odessos Ship Repair Yard, Petrol, Sopharma and Bulgarian-American Credit Bank. Two large-volume transactions were made with shares of Oil and Gas Exploration and Production.
Synergon Holding added 3.46% to an average of 11.35 leva today after 29,545 shares changed hands at prices between 10.8 and 11.7 leva. Demand is currently higher than offering, with 50 bids and 35 asks announced. Bids are between 9.75 and 10.92 leva and asks between 11.7 and 13.05 leva.
Monbat surged 7.59% today to an average of 27.64 leva at a turnover of 146,641 shares. There are 99 bids announced, asks are 49 less. Bids for shares of the Montana-based company vary between 25.55 and 23.496 leva, asks are between 27.8 and 31.79 leva.
Monbat announced today that it plans to spend 20% of 2007 profit to pay dividend. As you know the company posted income in the amount of 19.5 mln leva (9.97 mln euros) for 2007.
6,325 shares of Odessos Ship Repair Yard changed hands at an average of 301.43 leva, which is 5.33% up from yesterday. The company announced today 2007 pre-tax profit at 8.952 mln leva (4.577 mln euros), or 15.25 leva/share, versus 7.246 mln leva (3.704 mln euros), or 12.34 leva/share in 2006.
Sopharma rose 5.04% to 7.71 leva at a turnover of 51,344 shares. The company's non-consolidated report shows last year's profit grew 41% y/y to 30.992 mln leva (15.845 mln euros).
Two large deals with shares of Oil and Gas Exploration and Production were made today. One was for 17,455 shares at 10.999 leva/share and the second for 88,500 at 10.995 leva.
Investors interest in petrol did not subside today. 39,054 shares changed hands on the position at an average of 5.93 leva, or 3.49% up from yesterday. The fuel distributor reported a 41% decline in earnings, from 16.85 mln leva in 2006 to 9.96 mln leva (5.09 mln euros) last year.
BACB added 12.83%, which ranks it among today's top gainers. 23,014 shares changed hands today, the price reached 41 leva. As you know the bank posted unaudited report, showing net non-consolidated profit last year amounted to 51.100 mln leva (26.127 mln euros). This is a 51.7% up from the 33.686 mln leva (17.223 mln euros) posted in 2006.
