The combined profit of the top 20 companies in the ranking stands at a staggering 690 million leva, up by 55% year on year. Six of the companies included in the ranking booked a triple-digit increase in profit for 2007.
Bulgarian Telecommunications Company (BTC), which gave up the number one spot in the ranking, is one of the two companies to book a decrease in profit for 2007. The telecom is to be delisted from the Bulgarian stock Exchange (BSE).
Banks occupy the next three spots in ranking. All five banks listed on BSE made it into the top 20 of the ranking.
The average price/earnings (P/E) ratio of the companies stood at 20.7 with Blagoevgrad BT having the lowest of 6.41.
Zarneni Hraini had the highest P/E ratio but we have to take into consideration the fact the financial results of the company are only for the period since its establishment in November 2007.
The combined market capitalization of the 20 companies amounts to 14.22 billion leva, accounting for 57% of the market capitalization of all companies listed on BSE.
The data is taken from the consolidated reports of the companies for 2007. Katex was not included in the ranking because its high profit was obtained through the sale of equity stakes.
