A Guest House In The Heart Of The Rhodope Mountains

Yes, this week I am going to write about the Rhodope Mountains again.
Have you ever heard of the village of Kosovo? It is in the central part of the Rohodopes called Chernatica area, just 5 km away from the balneological resort of Narechenski Bani. The village is surrounded by the forest, and four rivers flow through its streets. It sounds beautiful and it is.
The climate is mild all year round. In the winter there is snow and it is sunny at the same time. And in the summer, the thick oak forest keeps the village cool.
The houses have preserved the traditional architecture of the Bulgarian Revival period. You can see 63 monuments of cultural here, 5 of which are proclaimed National Heritage.
The old houses were built a long time ago and out of simple materials – stone, wood, soil, and lime. They are approximately 150 years old, some even older.
Staying in a house like that is a unique experience. That is why, this week, I have decided to tell you about one of those houses – the Hajiiska House. It is the biggest and largest house in the village, so you won't miss it. It was built in 1853 by Haji Georgi Stanchovski and has been proclaimed a monument of culture.
The stone fence, the trimmer joists, the chimneys, and the roof have been restored and look just as they did back in the 1850s.
The house has two storeys and it can accommodate 18 people in 6 double and two tipple rooms. Each room impresses with designer furniture, resembling the style of the 1850s. Everything looks old there, yet all modern amenities are present. Each rooms has a separate bathroom with a shower cabin, and there is central heating and hot water. The house has three stars, which is the highest a guest house can get.
On the upper floor, there is an impressive common room preserving the looks and the atmosphere of the Revival period - the hearth and chimney, the colorful ceilings and walls, the traditional Bulgarian carpets on the oak floors, and the built-in the wall cabinets.
The fireplace is often used for the preparation of “Cheverme” - the roasting of a whole lamb after a traditional Bulgarian recipe – it's very delicious, trust me.
The tavern can seat up to 40 people and is suitable for hosting family parties as well as seminars. In the warmer months, the tavern also operates a small terrace floor, where you can eat and enjoy the beautiful views at the same time. They serve the best of the Rhodope dishes, as well as wonderful wine from the region.
Those of you who love the mountain and physical activity can take walking trips to the Narechencki Bani balneological resort, to the village of Biala Cherkwa, Mount Persenk, the Wonder Bridges (Chudnite Mostove), or the Red Wall nature reserve.
The locals organize day trips to the remains of the ancient archaeological complex Perperikon, the Uhlovitsa and Yagodinska caves, and the Trigrad Gorge. Those who love hunting and fishing will not be bored as well.
The rates are more than reasonable. A double rooms costs 80 leva and a triple is 100 leva per night.
That's all from us today, and don't forget to join us next week again for another stop on our exciting journey to the hotels in the Authentic Bulgaria selection.
