The stock exchanges in Zagreb and Sofia topped the ranking among five major regional exchanges in terms of turnover for April 2008, a survey conducted by Profit.bg shows.

The top five was rounded out by the stock exchanges in Belgrade, Bucharest and Skopje.

The Zagreb Stock Exchange topped the ranking with 448.32 mln dollars trading turnover in April. The Bulgarian Stock Exchange occupied the number two spot with a trading turnover of 243.71 mln dollars last month.

The Belgrade Stock Exchange ranked third with a total trading turnover of 228.8 mln dollars in April. The Bucharest Stock Exchange trailed by nearly 10 mln dollars with a trading turnover of 219.57 mln dollars las month.

The Macedonian Stock Exchange rounded out the top five with a trading turnover of 17.52 mln dollars in April.

Eurohold Bulgaria, Chimimport, Zarneni Hrani Bulgaria, Lead and Zinc Complex and Holding Roads were the five most liquid stocks traded on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange in April, the monthly bulletin of the bourse shows.

A total ot 1,679 deals were sealed on the position of Eurohold Bulgaria in April. The number of shares in the company traded last month stood at 561,489, while the turnover amounted to 2.85 mln leva.

A total of 2.43 mln shares in Chimimport traded hands in April in 1,657 transactions. The trading turnover on the position stood at 20.49 mln leva.

Zarneni Hrani Bulgaria was also heavily traded last month. The number of transactions on the position stood at 1,504, while the trading volume amounted to 3.23 mln shares. The turnover totaled 6.85 mln leva.

A total of 55,432 shares in Lead and Zinc Complex changed hands in 1,503 deals in April. The turnover on the position reached 2.5 mln leva.

Holding Roads occupied the fifth spot in the ranking of the most liquid companies on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange in April with 1,361 deals. A total of of 6,221 shares in the company were traded, while the turnover stood at 5.55 mln leva.
