Year to Date Inflation At 4.2%

The consumer price index in April 2008 came to 100.9% against March 2008 and inflation stands at 0.9%, the National Statistics Institute said. Jan – Apr inflation reaches 4.2% and 13.6% year on year.
April 2008 inflation is 14.6% up from April 2007.
The following prices rose in April – rice (1.7%), bread (0.6%), pasta (0.6%), pastries (3%), chicken meat (0.3%), beef and veal (2.8%), minced meat (1.5%), other meats (4.4%), fish and related products (1.6%), eggs (2.3%), butter (0.5%), margarine (3.5%), tomatoes (12.1%), fresh and frozen fruits (12%).
The prices of the following decreased – mushrooms (1.2%), cucumbers (19.3%), lettuce (20.1%), potatoes and potato products (6.6%), soda (1.3%) etc.
Non-food products that appreciated during the period are - men clothing (2.2%), female clothing (2%), shoes (2.4%), home rents (2.2%), A95H gasoline (1.4%), A98H gasoline (1.2%), diesel fuel (2.2%), social services (6.7%), city transport (1.9%) etc.
Prices of medicines and hospital services remained unchanged, while those of doctors examinations rose by 0.7% and dentist fees by 0.4%.
The index of consumer prices for the small consumer basket in April versus March 2008 is at 100.7% and since the beginning of the year at 104.3%.
