The total number of deposits of households and non-profit institutions serving households (NPISH) in Bulgaria stood at 12.168 million as at the end of March 2008, up by 9.9% year on year, data of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) shows.

The total volume of the deposits rose by 32.8% to 32.722 bln leva. The number of deposits of households and NPISH grew by 9.9% to 11.710 million, while the number of deposits of non-financial corporations went up by 10% to 457,200.

The total value of the deposits of households and NPISH stood at 19.675 bln leva as at th end of March 2008, up by 29.9% year on year. The share of deposits in the category of over 50,000 leva stood at 59.1%. The value of the deposits of non-financial corporations amounted to 13.047 bln leva, up by 37.3%, year on year.

The share of the deposits of non-financial corporations was the biggest (44%) as at the end of March 20008.

The total number of the loans stood at 2.774 million as at the end of the first quarter of 2008, while the value of the loans totaled 39.139 bln leva. The number of the loans went up by 25.1%, while the value rose by 56.4%. The number of the loans of households and NPISH marked a 24.6-percent year on year increase as at the end of March 2008, while the loans of non-financial corporations rose by 40.2%.

The value of the loans of households and NPISH marked a 49.6-percent year on year increase to 14.643 bln leva as at the end of March. The value of the loans of non-financial corporations increased by 60.8% to 24.495 bln leva.
