The gross premium income of general insurance companies for the Jan – June 2008 period stands at 723.3 mln leva, which is a hike of 21.4% y/y. Premium income on direct general insurance stands at 710.322 mln leva, versus 592.287 mln leva in 2007 H1.

Premiums from reinsurance amounted to 12.133 mln leva, versus 3.218 mln leva for the same period in 2007. General insurance claims reached 356.489 mln leva, which is a 41% hike.

Gross technical reserves (funds accumulated to pay future claims) are up 33% to 1.06 billion leva.

The net technical result, according to the aggregate report of the companies in the sector, is negative (-13.844 mln leva) against 28.592 mln leva a year ago. The types of insurance with biggest contribution to the overall figures are Motor Casco (13.54 mln leva) and “Fire and acts of God” (6.605 mln leva). MTPL insurance net result is negative (-27.193 mln leva).

Assets of companies in the sector of general insurance stand at 1.47 billion leva in H1, up 22.5%.

The gross premium income of life insurance companies at the end of H1 stands at 129.218 mln leva, up 27% on year. Premium income on direct life insurance came to 133.509 mln leva in H1.

Premiums on reinsurance here amount to 670,000 leva, against 661,000 a year ago. Claims paid by life insurers amount to 35,642 leva, up 35.1% y/y. Gross technical reserves are up 35% to 418.192 mln leva.

Life insurers' net technical result came to -4.977 mln leva (against 7.282 mln leva a year ago).

Life insurers' assets rose by 27.1% for the period to 866.447 mln leva.

At the end of H1 gross premium income realized by companies in the filed of voluntary health insurance came to 15.118 mln leva, compared with 14.366 mln leva a year ago (+5.23% y/y).

Claims paid in this filed stood at 9.617 mln leva in H1 compared with 6.983 mln leva a year ago, or a hike of 37.7%.

Health insurance reserves (the funds accumulated to pay future claims) rose by 28.3% and reaches 12.24 mln leva.

Assets of the companies in the sector of voluntary health insurance are up 21.9% to 52.252 mln leva. Equity capital of companies is up slightly (+1.2% on yr) to 26.492 mln leva.
