Health Insurance Fund to Increase Prices of All Types of Medical and Dental Services

The Management Board of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) decided to increase the prices at which it pays for all types of medical and dental services by an average of 10 per cent as of October 1, NHIF said in a press release.
A Management Board meeting on Sunday considered the expected implementation of the NHIF budget as of September 30. As a result of the effective activity of the National Revenue Agency and the prudent financial policy and control on the part of NHIF, several positive trends were identified which led to the decision to increase the prices of medical and dental services.
One such trend is the overfulfilment of the revenue side of the NHIF budget at the current moment by some 60 million leva.
An additional 11 million leva has been provided for primary outpatient treatment. The distribution of this funding will be carried out according to methods worked out in dialogue with the National Association of General Practitioners.
In specialized outpatient treatment for the last quarter of this year, an additional 500,000 referrals will be issued compared to the like period of last year, and 1.5 million leva more will be provided for medical diagnosis.
NHIF will pay hospitals the agreed services for this year. No refusal to treat patients will be allowed.
