The Education Ministry received 75% of its budget subsidy in May, Education and Science Minister Daniel Vulchev told reporters at the Bulgarian National Television on Thursday. Since the beginning of 2009, the ministry has been receiving 90% of its budget subsidy.

According to Vulchev, even with 90% of the subsidy education was on the edge and with 75% it would most certainly fall off the edge.

The Education Minister said that a society, irrespective of incumbent governments, had spheres of priority: health care, education and security. Vulchev said that budget expenditures were due to be debated at the Council of Ministers.

According to Vulchev, slashed subsidies would not cause schools and hospitals to go bankrupt, but would force them to run in the red. He said that for two years delegated school budgets had been working well but that the smaller subsidy would cause the system to collapse.
