Bulgaria's Commission for Protection of Competition (CPC) said on Monday it has begun an investigation in the banking sector.

Under a decision of June 11, the Commission initiated proceedings to investigate possible violation of provisions of the Competition Protection Act and the Treaty Establishing the European Community by the Association of Banks in Bulgaria, consisting in conduct which aims at preventing, limiting or violating competition on the respective market.

Experts of the Commission checked the office of the Association on July 8. The investigators impounded copies of documents kept on a paper medium, and by means of the forensic laboratory they also impounded documents kept on electronic and other digital storage media.

The collected documents and recordings will be examined by the Commission experts.
