The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2009 shrank by 4.9 per cent from a year earlier, according to the National Statistical Institute.

The H1 reduction in the GDP from to the like period in 2008 was 4.2 per cent.

The GDP in Q2 totalled 16,322 million leva, or 11,384 million U.S. dollars, at current prices. The per capita GDP was 2,150 leva, or 1,500 dollars. In euro the respective figures are 8,345 million euros and 1,099 euros.

The gross value added generated in the national economy totalled 13,856 million leva at current prices, down 1.9 per cent from a year earlier.

In nominal terms the H1 GDP totalled 30,283 million leva, or 20,636 million dollars. The per capita figures are 3,987 leva or 2,717 dollars. In euro the respective figures are 15,483 million euros and 2,038 euros.

The H1 gross value added stood at 25,463 million leva, 2.3 per cent down the respective figure in 2008.
