Trade between Bulgaria and Romania for the January-July period of 2009 stood at 1,210 million euro, down 16.5 per cent from the like period a year earlier, Bulgarian-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry said on Monday, citing figures from the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism.

Between January and July 2009 Bulgarian imports from Romania dropped significantly, by 27.6 per cent, compared with the same period of 2008, whereas Bulgarian exports to Romania remained relatively unchanged, or as little as 1.4 per cent down.

This caused Bulgaria's trade deficit for the said period to shrink to 40 million euro, whereas between January and July 2008 it was 274 million euro.
