The construction plans for the second bridge over the Danube at Vidin-Calafat provide for work to be completed by April 2010, Deputy Transport Minister Vesela Gospodinova said on Friday after a meeting on the progress of the project.

It was agreed for work to begin on Tuesday, April 15.

The meeting was also attended by European Commission representatives, the Secretary General of the Transport Ministry of Romania, Vidin Regional Governor Krustyo Spasov and the Mayors of Vidin and Calafat.

The most multinational river basin in the world, the Danube basin is roughly twice the size of California and its area covers part or all of 19 riparian countries: Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Ukraine.
