Foreign direct investment in Bulgaria Dipped to EUR 119.6 million in January
According to preliminary data, the Foreign direct investment in Bulgaria for January 2007 amounted to EUR 119.6 million (0.4% of GDP) against EUR 200.2 million (0.8% of GDP) attracted in January 2006, snows data released by BNB.
The attracted equity capital (acquisition/disposal of shares and equities in cash and in kind by non-residents in/from the capital and reserves of Bulgarian enterprises and receipts/payments from/for real estate deals in the country) for January 2007 amounted to EUR 99.2 million.
Its relative share in the foreign direct investment amounted to 83%. It decreased by EUR 28 million compared to that attracted in the same period of 2006 (EUR 127.2 million). The receipts from real estate sales to nonresidents are included in equity capital and they amounted to EUR 69.9 million against EUR 53.4 million for January 2006.
The attracted equity capital on privatisation deals with non-residents reported for January 2007 amounted to EUR 1.4 million. The attracted equity capital on non-privatisation deals totalled EUR 97.8 million in the reporting period against EUR 126 million for the same period of 2006.
The other capital (the change in the net liabilities of the direct investment enterprise to the direct investor on financial loans, suppliers’ credits and debt securities) was negative and amounted to EUR 6 million (net) for January 2007, against positive EUR 54.6 million for the same period of 2006.
According to preliminary data the reinvested earnings (the share of non-residents in the undistributed earnings/ loss of the enterprise) for January 2007 are estimated to EUR 26.4 million against EUR 18.4 million for the same period of 2006.
By countries, the largest investments in Bulgaria for the reporting period were those of the United Kingdom (26% of the total foreign direct investment), Ireland (10%) and Lithuania (10%).
According to preliminary data for January 2007 Direct investment abroad was EUR 4.9 million against EUR 3.8 million for the same period in 2006.
The 2005 data for foreign direct investment in Bulgaria are revised with the processed by the Bulgarian National Bank annual data from the National Statistical Institute regarding foreign direct investments of enterprises of the non-financial sector as well as with additional information from reports of the direct investment enterprises received by the Bulgarian National Bank in 2006 and 2007.
Foreign direct investments in Bulgaria for 2005 amounted to EUR 3103.3 million (14.5 % of GDP) against preliminary data of EUR 2326 million. The attracted in 2005 equity capital amounted to EUR 1789.3 million (against EUR 906.6 million according to the preliminary data) and represents 57.7 % of the total value of the foreign direct investments in Bulgaria in 2005.
The attracted other capital amounted to EUR 1012.2 million (32.6 % of the total foreign direct investment) against the preliminary data of EUR 1210.2 millon. The reinvested earnings of the enterprises from the non-financial sector and the commercial banks amounted to EUR 301.8 million in total. The revision is at the value of EUR 92.6 million and represents the reinvested earnings of the non-financial sector.
