Consumer Confidence In Bulgaria Is Rising
For the period January - April 2007 the consumer confidence indicator in Bulgaria rose 7.8 percentage points, reports the National Statistics Institute (NSI). The increase in urban areas stood at 9.1 percentage points, and in rural areas at 5.4 percentage points. The total balance assessment of the households' budget also improves (by 4.2 percentage points), rural areas account for most of this increase.
The number of people who describe their financial situation as "managing to make ends meet" is down 2.1 percentage points, as well as the number of consumers "running into debt" - by 2.0 percentage points. Meanwhile those who say they „manage to save a little“ have increased by 3.7 percentage points.
In April 2007 retails sales and repairs of personal and household goods rose by 7.4% compared to April 2006. The increase was mainly due to higher results achived in sales in the sectors of food, beverages and tobacco trade – 9.7% up, retail sales of electrical household appliances, radio and television sets – 9.6% up, pharmaceutical and medical goods and cosmetics – 6.1% up, retail sale of textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods – 3.9% up and others.
Individual consumption accounted for 82.2% of the produced GDP in 2007 firs quarter. The real increase of the indicator was by 8.1% against the respective period in 2006.
