Bulgaria's Gross External Debt Up 9.4%

As of end-July 2007 the nation's gross external debt stands at 22,002.8 million euros (82.3% of GDP) which is 1,892.1 million (9.4%) up versus end of 2006 (20,110.7 million euros, 80.1% of GDP), Bulgarian National Bank announced.
By end-July 2007 long-term liabilities amounted to 15,233.4 million euors (69.2% of total debt), and short-term liabilities came to 6,769.5 million euros (30.8% of total debt).
General Government’s external debt has dropped to 3,204.7 million euros (12% of GDP) as of end-July 2007, which is 460.5 million euros (12.6%) down against end of December 2006. The decrease is mainly due to repayment of global bonds and to the full and ahead of schedule repayment of the debt to the International Monetary Fund.
Banks’ external debt amounted to 3,719.4 million euros (13.9% of GDP), which is 365.2 million euros (10.9%) more than at the end of 2006. Other Sectors’ debt was 8,235.9 million euros, or 1,043.6 million euros (14.5%) up versus end of 2006. As of end-July 2007 the stock of Direct Investment liabilities stood at 6,842.8 million euros, up 16% against the end of 2006.
In January – July 2007, gross external debt service was in the amount of 3,151.3 million euros (11.8% of GDP) against 2,405.7 million euros (9.6% of GDP) for the same period in 2006.
In January – July 2007, loans and deposits received from nonresidents came to 4,325.3 million euros (16.2% of GDP) compared to 4,586.7 million euros (18.3% of GDP) for the same period in 2006.
As of end-July 2007, net external debt was 7,562.8 million euros (28.3% of GDP) versus 5,964 million euros, or 23.8% of GDP at the end of 2006.
