Profits of Greek Banks Up 27% in Q1 Excluding One-off Items

According to reliable sources close to the bank’s management, cited by Reporter.gr, the National Bank of Greece is expected to post a profit of 470-480 million euro in the first quarter of 2008, from 381 m euro in the corresponding period of 2007, registering a 25% increase.
Alpha Bank, according to other sources, is expected to post net earnings of 235m euro from 256 million in the first trimester of 2007. down 8% YoY. Because of the bank’s one off profits in 2007, the real increase- excluding one-off gains- will be 34% higher YoY.
EFG Eurobank will post net earning of 250m euro, up 23%. Piraeus Bank net profits will be 39% lower, as it will not register one-off gains like in the corresponding period of 2007, but excluding one –off items, the real increase will be 57% YoY.
Marfin Popular bank net profit will amount to 150m euro, down 11% YoY from the 2007 corresponding quarter, due to 2007 one off items,. Excluding those, the real profits increase will be 25%.
Bank of Cyprus will post 135m euro gains , up 26% YoY. ATEBank will post net earnings of 60m euro, down 19% YoY due to one off items. Emporiki Bank will register 42% profit increase, to 25 million euro.
Greek Postal Savings Bank will register profits of 32-34 million euro, down 12% YoY from the 39.2m it has posted in first quarter of 2008.
