Romanians' overdue payments on bank credits accelerated in April, and reached 690.6 million RON (almost 190 million euros), with the highest share being accounted for by credits taken out in RON.

Overdue payments rose by 10% in April and overall amounted to 189.7 million euros, after three months of maximum increases of 8%, data of the National Bank of Romania shows. In February, the growth rate stood at 7.7%, while January and March saw only marginal increases, of 1.6% and 0.1% respectively.

The overall credits contracted rose a lot slower than overdue payments, by 2.6% in April, to 81.7 billion RON (22.4 billion euros). However, the base considered is significantly larger when it comes to credits.

The share of overdue payments in the volume of credits taken out by the population reached 0.8% in April, slightly up from March, when they amounted to 0.78%.
