Four banks in Bulgaria posted over 100 mln leva profit each for the first nine months of the year, data of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) show.

UniCredit Bulbank and DSK Bank top the ranking with 215.65 mln leva and 204.6 mln leva for the period Januara to September 2008, respectively. United Bulgarian Bank and Raiffeisenbank follow with 165.9 and 110.3 mln leva profit, respectively.

Eurobank EFG Bulgaria (78.1 mln leva) ranks fifth, followed by Piraeus Bank, Bulgarian American Credit Bank, First Investment Bank, Corporate Commercial Bank and SG Expressbank.

The banks that made it into the top 10 accounted for 88% of the profit of the banking system as at September 30, which amounted to 1.1 bln leva, up by 245 mln leva year on year.

The financial results of nine of the banks worsened. Alpha Bank, Emporiki Bank and International Asset Bank booked the biggest declines in profit.

DBank, Citibank, Piraeus Bank and MKB Unionbank saw the biggest increase in profit in the period.
