Interior Minister Mihail Mikov, Vidin Regional Governor Krustyo Spassov and Belogradchik border police department chief Lyubomir Ivanov visited the Kadi Boaz area where a new border crossing will be built at Salash/Novo Korito, the Interior Ministry said in a press release on Saturday.

An agreement on the building of the new border crossing was signed between Bulgaria and Serbia in June 2007.

On March 11, 2009, Mikov and his Serbian counterpart Ivica Dacic expressed readiness and a will to build the border crossing, the press release says.

According to Mikov, the design for the 3.1 km access road will be completed by the end of next week, and then a procedure for its building will be announced. Expectations are that the new border crossing will be unveiled in a few months' time.

Mikov noted that these actions are a clear signal for Bulgaria's good-neighbourly relations with Serbia.

People in the two municipalities Belogradchik and Knjazevac have been waiting for years for this facility to be built. It is expected that traffic via the crossing will be primarily of cars, the press release says.
