The National Statistical Institute (NSI) reports a 3.5 per cent increase of railway cargo transport and a 7.8 per cent drop of passengers, having used railway services, in February compared to January. Cargo and passenger transport decreased by 24.5 per cent and 6.6 per cent, respectively.
A total of 1,194,600 tonnes of cargo and 2,437,400 passengers were transported in the period under review.
The growth of transported cargo was mostly due to the increased volume of international haulage.
The shrinkage of passenger carriage was due to the reduction of the average distance upon international carriage.
