Bulgaria ranks last of all EU Member States in terms of the volume of online shopping according to figures by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, released in Brussels.
Data shows that Denmark (59 per cent), the United Kingdom (57 per cent) and the Netherlands (56 percent) top the ranking. Lithuania (6 per cent), Romania (4 per cent) and Bulgaria (3 per cent) take the bottom three places.
According to Eurostat, 32 per cent of all EU citizens shop over the Internet, in most cases clothes and tickets.
Due to the rising share of e-shopping, next week EU Consumer Protection Commissioner Meglena Kuneva will report on the need for increased protection of personal data obtained from online shoppers.
