Active work on the Lyulin, Trakiya and Maritsa motorways will begin within 10 to 15 days of the formation of the new government, GERB informal leader and Sofia Mayor Boiko Borissov said on Monday. "I envy the next Mayor of Sofia because, as a prime minister, I will personally take care so that all initiatives undertaken in Sofia would be completed," Borissov said.
He voiced confidence that the competent services and the prosecution authority will begin working more efficiently after the elections. Borissov specified that GERB will have a meeting with officials of the Prosecution Office on Wednesday. The GERB leader noted he would do his best to release blocked funds for Bulgaria. Besides, in his view, the problems, related to the area of justice, should be eliminated so that they stop recurring in the European Commission's reports on Bulgaria.
Asked whether he is familiar with the raid against vote buying conducted by the State Agency for National Security (SANS), Borissov voiced confidence that the Agency would improve its performance given that so far its operation had been hindered by the three-party coalition. He noted that the work of SANS and the Interior Ministry will be reviewed so as to establish what and who had been hindering them.
Asked whether civil servants should be afraid about their jobs, Borissov replied that the culprits for the failure of projects and suspended EU funding will be dismissed.
"After the GERB experts are ready with the inspection of the real condition of the budget, we will make a public statement as to whether it is necessary to enter into an agreement with the International Monetary Fund," the GERB leader also said.
Asked whether Meglena Kuneva will be nominated again as EU Commissioner, Borissov recalled that Kuneva chose to run as MEP. According to him, if elections for the European Parliament and for the National Assembly had been held simultaneously, GERB would have returned 11 MEPs to the European Parliament.
The Bulgarian Socialist Party and the National Movement for Surge and Stability (NMSS) should blame themselves for the failure adding that whoever has got closer to MRF has suffered a catastrophic loss afterwards. If (NMSS leader Simeon) Saxe-Coburg-Gotha had withdrawn from the coalition in time, neither the state would have been ruined nor NMSS would have stepped down from the political stage so quickly.
The positions of Minister of Emergency Situations, European Affairs Minister and Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the absorption of the EU funds will certainly be removed, Borissov also said.
