Number of Foreigners Visiting Bulgaria Drops 0.4 Per Cent

The number of foreign tourists visiting Bulgaria in January-November 2009 was 0.4 per cent down the figure for the like period in 2008, the Economy, Energy and Tourism Ministry said in a press release. In January-November 2009 a total of 5,498,076 foreigners visited Bulgaria; the figure excludes people transiting Bulgaria en route to another destination.
In the period under review Bulgaria was visited by 4,153,798 citizens of EU member states, which is 2.5 per cent more than the like period in 2008.
Proceeds from international tourism in Bulgaria in January-October 2009 stood at 2,385,700 euros, 1.5 per cent more compared to the like period in 2008.
Spending by Bulgarians for trips abroad in the same period stood at 1,147,600 euros, or 17.7 per cent less than the like figure for 2008.
In January-November 2009 Bulgarians made a total of 4,695,146 trips abroad, which is 12 per cent less than the like period in the previous year. A total of 2,763,291 trips were made to EU member states, or 15.8 per cent less compared to the like period in 2008.
