June 2010 Construction Production Down 17.5%, Year-on-Year

According to preliminary data, the total construction production in June 2010 declined by 17.5 per cent from the same month a year ago, the National Statistical Institute reported on Tuesday.
The production of building construction dropped 26.2 per cent, while civil engineering production contracted 1.4 per cent.
In June 2010, the construction production was 10.3 per cent above the level of May. Building construction increased its production by 9.7 per cent, and civil engineering by 11.2 per cent, month-on-month.
In January-June 2010, total construction production declined by 22.6 per cent from the like period of 2009, mainly due to a 31.5 per cent drop in building construction (civil engineering production shrank by just 4.6 per cent).
Building construction includes construction of residential and non-residential buildings. Civil engineering includes construction of roads, bridges, pipelines, power lines, telecommunication and other construction facilities.
