Romanian new car registrations fell 2.2% on the year to 10,381 units in July, Interior Ministry data showed Thursday, news agency Mediafax reported.

However, car registrations were up 1% from a month earlier, according to the ministry's license and car registration division.

Local brand Dacia remained the best-selling car despite registrations falling 7.4% from a year earlier, with 3,864 units registered in July.

Skoda Auto AS registrations rose 27.3% on the year to 1,074 units and Renault SA (RNO.FR) registrations rose 12% to 870 units.

In the January to July period new car registrations declined 36% on the year to 47,017 units.
